Dog Training Center Offers Respite For Dogs Affected By The Australian Forest Fires
Australia is in dire need on so many levels. Unless you have been living under a rock, you already know about the Australian forest fires.
Bushfires in the land down under are normal. But this season, the fires have escalated to a whole new level, and experts are saying that this is the worst bushfire season in Australian history.
The fires have affected humans and animals alike. People had to evacuate their homes, and many of them have lost their properties to the blaze.
Also, it has been reported that over a billion animals have already died because of the flames, a shocking number that nobody saw coming.
In these extreme times, people need to come together to help each other, and in East Gippsland, a dog training center decided to help out animals in need. Understandably, many dogs have lost their homes due to the fires, and they need a place to come home to, even just for the meantime.
The facility run by Meg Hopman has opened its doors to dogs who are seeking refuge. Meg shared that their organization decided to do this so that they could somehow help with the situation. They understand that this is the time when the country needs to open doors to strangers, instead of shutting them close.
Some of the dogs that they welcomed to the center were rescued off the streets, but many of them were brought there by their owners.
These fur parents either had to relocate or had their hands full at their own homes because of the fire. Having a place to leave their dogs was very helpful for them.
Meg explained that not only do they house and feed the dogs, but they also do their best to give them a semblance of normality.
Some of them may have been traumatized by the fires, and this could be vital for their mental health.
On top of all these, the dog training center does not charge the dog owners for taking in their dogs.
